Super Saturday - 2017
January 21st...Scrap Happy Day...by all accounts a huge success. See Betty's quilt on the left.
Up coming dates:
February 18th...log cabin (two patterns to choose from)
OPTION 1: KWIK SCRAPPY “Stack n Wack”
Finished blocks are 9”. For every 12” square of fabric you use, you will get one finished 9” block. So if you want a lap size 70 x 70 quilt you will need (6) 1/3 yard cuts of light fabrics, and (6) 1/3 yard cuts of dark fabrics. Then buy enough yardage for your borders (one 2” border and one 4” border) to get this finished size. Mix light medium and dark tones. Do not cut your 12” squares before coming. I have also reduced the pattern to make a table runner. This uses (12) 10” squares plus fabric for border. This is a great way to use leftover layer cake fabric, or dig into your stash. Once again, mix light medium and dark tones. Do not cut your 10” squares before coming. Rulers, cutting mat, freezer paper as well as regular sewing kit.
OPTION 2: TRADITIONAL LOG CABIN
Finished blocks are 14”. You can decide on the size you want and calculate the number of blocks you will need. Choose one fabric for the centre square, as well as (3) dark fabrics and (3) light fabrics. Make sure that there is good “flow” from one fabric to the next. Also be sure that your “darkest” light is noticeably lighter than the darkest dark so there will be good contrast between blocks. Here is the yardage for two sizes …contact me (Sue Hayden 323-1999) if you want to make a different size and need help calculating yardage! If you come to Super Saturday with your strips WOF x 2 ½ “ cut as indicated, you will be able to start sewing right away!!!
